The benefits of mindfulness and meditation are numerous and in adults it has been shown to positively influence the brain including impulse control, decision making, perspective taking, emotional regulation, learning and memory, the latest research in nuro-plasticity also reveal that we can literally improve our happiness!
The mental health of our children and teens has become a massive concern in this country and children as young as preschool are feeling the effects of stress on their well being - the importance of mindful practice increases as more and more research makes the correlation between present moment awareness and understanding of how they can tune in to their breath. The simple games, visualisations and breathing exercises used in my work can help develop and optimize each clients capacity to reduce their stress and improve their executive function (attention, rationale, emotional regulation and memory retention).
The practices I use are aimed at empowering each client, from preschool to adult, giving them the ability to be in the present moment without dwelling on the past or trying to anticipate the future.
Adults go on a journey that involves understanding their environmental influences on their level of happiness and ability to enjoy the present moment and reduce their reactivity. This does not mean that mindfulness is a magic wand that waves all stress away but it is a vast toolbox that allows you to be with all your challenges in a different and more helpful way so you can grow and learn how to replace the natural negativity bias with a more positive outlook which in turn has a wonderful impact on confidence and relationships with others...
